The Little Church that Could
What is Compassion?
Pukalani Church of the Nazarene's Compassionate Ministry Program stands as a beacon of hope and support for our community, embodying our mission to serve others with love and compassion. Over the years, we have distributed more than 200,000 lbs of fresh produce, ensuring that those in need have access to healthy food. Our program includes a variety of seasonal outreach efforts, such as our Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving food boxes, and our Schools Out Boxes that provide essentials for families during school breaks. One of the most cherished events in our calendar is the annual Thanksgiving Imu, where we prepare and distribute over 500 turkeys to bring warmth and sustenance to those facing hardship. We also organize Backpack Drives to equip children with the school supplies they need, make regular hospital visits with flowers and prayers, and offer a comforting presence to anyone who knows to come to Puka Naz in their time of need.
Compassionate Ministry is not just an outreach program for us—it's one of our flagship ministries, a tangible expression of God's love in action. Most recently, we have had the privilege of serving as a shelter and distribution hub following the devastating Maui Wildfires, offering shelter, supplies, and emotional support to those affected by the crisis. Though we can't list every act of service, it is clear that God is working in the "in-betweens," in the quiet moments of everyday ministry and the larger, urgent calls for help. At Puka Naz, we believe that being mission-minded is not just a calling—it's a lifestyle. Through these efforts and more, we strive to live out God's love and compassion, sharing His grace with all who walk through our doors.
